Brighten Up
"Small rooms could package plenty of punch powder rooms especially are fantastic for unexpected surprises," states Ghislaine Vinas of Ghislaine Vinas Interior Design. "For me, it's frequently a 'go big or go home' moment. I love being bold in my treatment of powder chambers." Broad bands of fluorescent yellow paint brightened up the alcove of the toilet. With no direct sunshine in this area, the colour lends a sunny vibe. "The rest of the powder room was left white so that it's clean and fresh. The beauty of the treatment, also, is that when a person grows tired of this colour or the stripes, it's simple to refresh with a new layout," Ghislaine states.
Feeling Blue
By painting the vanity a dreamy blue color, this very small bathroom receives a bright and fairly focal point. Adding a band of glass mosaic tiles adds another personal touch to the space and is an eye-catching, cost-efficient alternate into a fully-tiled wall. Then, it is artwork and accessories that improve the room's colors and style. The splashy painting behind the commode pulls the room together, while a trio of bottles and a bird-topped decorative orb add personal touches.
Chic All Over
"Our client loves design impact. This gave us permission to layer found lighting bits, a statement mirror and vintage bathroom hardware on an already graphic wall covering," says Kerrie Kelly of Kerrie Kelly Design Lab. With this bold half tub, Kelly worked to make a personalized decorative that would also match the adjacent alive and game rooms. "We started our design process by choosing a wall covering. From there we had the ability to supply pieces from our customer's treasure trove of objects found while traveling to create it a space all her own." In general, Kelly likes to "celebrate a little space by providing a bit of drama which matches other areas of the home."
Masculine and Modern
"Fantastic wall tiles, bold flooring choices, unusual light fixtures and bold paint colour mixes are all elements that can be manipulated to make even the smallest loo that a 'wow' space," says designer Corey Damon Jenkins. Within this bachelor pad, "the tiles have an iridescent quality, also we lacquered the ceiling in black paint too," Corey says. "As a result, the white vanity, crystal and oval mirror 'float' and reflect brightly from those glistening backdrops." While some people suppose that dark wall colors make a room feel cluttered, Corey disagrees. "In reality, it is the precise opposite. They actually make the space grow visually because they obscure the lines which define the room's true dimensions and perimeter."
In the Mix
This neutral-metallic powder area successfully incorporates a choice of unique and unexpected design elements to make a memorable, impactful space. Subtly textured, metallic tiles line the walls to include interest and reflect light in this contemporary setting. A unique vessel sink and off-center faucet play with function and form, even though a shell-encrusted mirror balances out the design with tons of organic texture and appeal.
Bestseller Bathroom
Sarah Wittenbraker of Sarah Wittenbraker Interiors provides this proposal, "When designing a small bathroom, create the flooring wall or tile covering a standout. Or even better, do both! Moreover, be smart about storage Even powder baths require a cabinet or drawer for the necessities. I usually 'just say no' to base sinks." With this particular guest bathroom situated right off the living space, it is quite visible and often utilized. "The publication cover background has been the perfect colour palette for our home," says Sarah. "Plus this bookworm about expired over turning our toilet into a 'library!'"
A Spa-Like Placing
Keeping things chic and slick was a priority in this elegant bathroom, together with the endings and palette helping lend the room a spa-like atmosphere. The wall-mounted, contemporary chrome faucet is cool but unobtrusive, incorporated beautifully with all the soft-toned mosaic tiles. The simply styled, coordinating chrome-framed mirror matches the layout, and it is mirror-like finish keeps the look mild, bright and modern. Minimal accents, like the softly-hued green vase, keep the look clean and welcoming.
A Woodsy Welcome
We adore the forest-inspired wallpaper within this small bathroom. The vertical layout keeps the eye moving upwards, visually adding height. And it was all inspired by a fanciful framed print. "The homeowner needed this whimsical piece of art they wanted to integrate, so we started there. This led us to the wall-covering option," says Jen Ziemer of Fiddlehead Design Group. The lighting, says Jen, is a enjoyable juxtaposition to the rustic elements. Hooks and shelving help offset the lack of storage room, and the result is a small powder room that's the perfect combination of function and style. "Do not be scared to go bold in a little space!" States Ziemer. "Have some fun and give your guests something to talk about."
Pattern Play
Talk about a major statement in a small area: This powder room is a winning mix of colors, patterns and whimsy. The trick to maintaining it chic instead of overpowering is functioning within the color palette established by the wall covering. Pulling colors of blue out of the wallpaper, the striped sconce shades and hand towel soda without competing with (or becoming lost in) the newspaper's pattern. A frameless, beveled-edge mirror and simply-styled sink are perfect complements to the attractive graphic print.
Go Fish!
With this children's toilet in a vacation home, Linc Thelan of Linc Thelen Design wanted the layout to signify summer fun in the beach. "Adding the colorful geometric fish background, trough sink and custom woodwork gave this bath style and an experience of what summer homes are made of," says Linc. The graphic, fish-patterned wallpaper adds just the right amount of color, whimsy and impact to this white space. "Locate a statement piece and work around that," Thelan says. "Select a stunning floor tile, wallpaper or cabinet and build it off." Adding child-height double hooks provides a little bit of storage and incentive to hang wet towels, swimsuits and robes.
Proceed for a Gallery
Personalizing a distance can be completed in many ways, but displaying prized collections is decidedly one of the most satisfying. Within this boldly-hued bathroom, children's artwork and fun collectibles are framed and displayed, creating a distinctive gallery-style environment where it's least expected but certainly appreciated. No vertical distance is off limits. Here, even the door becomes its art-laden wall. Although this example shows a children's toilet, the idea is equally as delightful in mature powder rooms, also!
a lot of Texture
"I believe small bathrooms are fantastic places to take design risks. Because they are such small spaces, a bold color or background selection can be a fantastic surprise for guests, but you do not risk dominating a complete field of the house," says Carmel Greer of District Design. In a fun twist, Carmel utilized architectural ceiling medallions as wall ornaments. Painted the same colour as the walls, these medallions become eye-catching functions of art. Several shapes and sizes of medallions add a whimsical feeling to this uber-textural design choice. This unusual but impactful decor is a smart way to decorate the walls in keeping with the feel of the turn-of-the-century row house in which it's situated.
Statement Sink
Within this gorgeous Mediterranean-style bath, an exquisitely decorated terracotta sink takes center stage. The rest of the elements within the room, from the gold colour of the walls and also edge detail to the wrought iron towel rack and light fixture, function to highlight and enhance the sink. The end result is an inviting powder room with a sunny texture and well-traveled aesthetic in keeping with the house's bright, globally influenced decor.
Ranch-Style Restroom
The design of this striking small bathroom is inspired from the home's modern ranch design. "Our principal objective was to keep our small bathroom simple and functional and also to make us feel like we'd walked right into a mountain cottage, not an RV," says Katie Nathey of Mountain Modern Life. "We simplified the color palette and accessories to create a place that feels larger and uncluttered." Personalized touches make this petite toilet even sweeter. "We had been married at a cottage wedding place in North Carolina, and the owner was kind enough to give us a reclaimed wood he had on the house. Some of the wood has been used to create our bathroom counter as well as the shelf we use to store towels and toilet paper. We also reimagined the linen closet door utilizing old tin and wood from my husband's family's farm. We love using substances that add history and tell a story!"
Pop of Pink
With its picture print and a fresh rosy hue, the background in this tiny bathroom takes centre stage, making a lasting impression on its customers. A drawer-front dressing table provides some much-needed storage space under the marble-topped sink. Sconces with clear foundations are affixed to opposite walls, rather than beside the mirror, to help visually open up the distance. Straightforward accessories, a thin-framed mirror and skillet bar work well to keep the wall covering the star and finish this off jewel box of a powder room.
